Police say the 12-year-old was trying to cross the street when she was hit by a car driven by a 16-year-old.

Police say the car’s driver had the right-of-way, but the girl just rolled right into the street without stopping first.

Officers say this is a good time to remind your kids about traffic safety.

“There’s a stop sign at South 10th Street,” said Sergeant Kevin Kallinen, of the Grand Forks Police Department. “Bicycles have to obey the traffic laws just as well the car.”

The girl suffered minor injuries including a scrapped knee.

Neighbors say the intersection is frequently busy during the day.
